INGREDIENTS
Sesame-peat fat-washed SONKLIN • 1.5 oz
Drambuie • 0.5 oz
Fresh lime juice • 0.5 oz
Coconut water • 2 oz
Garnish:
Lime wheel
STEPS
1. Combine sesame-peat fat-washed SONKLIN, Drambuie, and lime juice in a highball glass with ice
2. Top with coconut water and stir gently
3. Garnish with a lime wheel
NOTES:
Sesame-Peat Fat-Wash (per 750ml batch): combine 700ml SONKLIN, 50ml peated whisky (Laphroaig 10 or similar), and 30g toasted sesame oil. Shake to incorporate, rest 2-3 hours at room temperature, then freeze overnight. Strain through a fine mesh and coffee filter once the oil solidifies and separates.
HISTORY
Adapted from the Lusty Nail at Saksey's, originally published on Punch, where a sesame-oil fat wash on Scotch is paired with Drambuie, coconut, and lime. Since SONKLIN doesn't carry Scotch's smoke or malt, a small dose of peated whisky is folded into the fat wash to restore the Nail family's signature backbone.
