Rai Nong Khong - 2024 Harvest
Field
Notes
Rai Nong Khong is actually farmed by novice monks from the nearby Wat Nong Khong - Mae Taeng Wittaya school. Imagine our surprised when we arrived to inspect the sugarcane and discovered that the teenage monks are running this project to raise money for their continuing education. Despite the close links between the temple and the field, they gave their blessing for the sugarcane to be turned into spirit.

The land is a long rectangle, situated very close to a mid sized irrigation canal. In certain years, as in 2024, the canal overflowed during the rainy season leading to some crop damage but also the rejuvenation of the land through the deposit of nutrient rich soil.

Unfortunately the 2024 vintage is the only release from this estate for the foreseeable future as they are currently practicing rotational planting to heal the land.
