Rai Phrao - 2025 Harvest

Field
Notes
Kayan Buayen is a Chiang Mai native, born in Doi Saket (of coffee fame) and moved to Phrao when he was 12. He's worked the lands, started a family and is now in semi retirement. After his son was elected Village Chief, Lung Kayan came out of retirement to help put the family lands to use while his son was busy.

His farm, consisting of an L shaped ploy of land, is raised slightly above the surrounding rice paddies, allowing for the dry conditions needed for growing sugarcane but is still well irrigated via the stream running alongside. He has been growing cane for over 20 years and normally supplies the local sugar mill. The 2025 harvest was the second harvest of the current cane.
